Enjoy Flash Video FLV from YouTube and Google Video on Portable Devices

FLV to MP4 movie

This tutorial is telling you the way to convert videos downloaded from YouTube and Google Video, etc, and enjoy them on your mobile devices.

First of all, we must make it clear that the YouTube videos and Google videos are Flash Video file, or FLV file format.

What is FLV?

FLV, or Flash Live Video file, is a preferred file format that is designed for web playback, offering high rates of compression to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player.

FLV content cannot be played back directly. It must be embedded in (or linked from) an SWF file. You create (or download) a “container” SWF file from which to play the FLV file. The most common approach is to use an SWF file to function as a media player with screen and playback controls. Notable users of the FLV format include YouTube, Google Video, Reuters.com, Yahoo! Video and MySpace.

What is MP4?

A video compression standard planned for late 1998. MPEG-4 extends the earlier MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 algorithms with synthesis of speech and video, fractal compression, computer visualisation and artificial intelligence-based image processing techniques.

MPEG.ORG is an excellent source for additional information on MPEG format and usage.

Launch FLV to Video Converter Pro 2
In order to convert from FLV (Flash Video) to RM (RealMedia) video with FLV to Video Converter, you must have Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 installed.

Once Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 is installed, launch the converter program.

Add File
Click on the “Add FLV” button on the tool bar to import your target FLV files into the program. Before importing, you can preview the FLV. You can input as many FLV files as you like.

Clip the Video and Add Watermark

Select a specific file and you can crop the video on the left preview pane to determine what area of the video image is to be shown. You can also trim the length of the video, as is marked in the picture below.

This program also supports adding image and text watermarks to the video. This step is particularly important to instructors or conference presenters if they want to display their logo in the generated video.

Check “Add image watermark” under “Logo” tab. And then you can choose your logo with Browse. With the drop-down menu of “Origin”, you can set the location of the watermark. To set the transparent color, you can click the button marked in the picture above. The “Select transparent color” window will pop up. Then you can enable the transparent color and select a transparent color by clicking in the left pane. Drag the bars to set tolerance and alpha. The output image will be shown in the right pane.

To add text watermark, you can check “Add text watermark” under “Text” tab. You can set the font of the text by clicking “T” button.
Change the Output Settings

You can change the output path by clicking the folder icon right behind “Export to…” box.

Select “MP4″ in the “Export format”, and then you can change the video and audio settings with “Settings” tab. If it is not in need, just keep it by default.

Start Conversion
After all the settings, click “Convert” and “Start” to convert the files on the file list to the output folder.

Transfer the Converted Movies to Your Portable devices and enjoy it any time you like!
